Monique Swain, LCSW-C
Co-Founder of The Well Athlete | Athlete Mental Health Therapist & Consultant
Born in Richmond, Virginia and trained at Morgan State University (B.S.W.) and the University of Maryland School of Social Work (M.S.W.), Monique Swain is a licensed clinical social worker, mental performance enthusiast, and passionate advocate for athlete wellness. She brings over a decade of experience in clinical social work, including extensive work with families navigating transitions through the child welfare system.
As Co-Founder of The Well Athlete, Monique brings a trauma-informed, culturally competent, and athlete-centered approach to mental health. Her work is grounded in her belief that athletes deserve holistic support both in and beyond sport and her professional mission is deeply personal. Inspired by observing the emotional and identity struggles faced by her husband, a former college athlete, along with other family members and friends transitioning out of sport, Monique was called to support athletes as they navigate similar challenges.
With a strong foundation in crisis response, transition planning, and goal setting, Monique works to empower athletes at every level to thrive on the field and in life. She also partners with coaches, organizations, and athlete support systems to build mentally healthy environments within sports. Currently pursuing a certificate in Applied Sport Psychology and CMPC credentials, she continues to bridge the gap between clinical care and performance enhancement.
When she’s not working with athletes, Monique enjoys traveling to beach destinations, exploring new foods, cooking creative meals, wine tasting with friends, and spending quality time with her husband and daughter.
